No, Really, WHAT?

So, I'm watching the English-language Asian music channel, and all of a sudden, Jackie Chan is on my TV. With a bunch of children. Making origami birds.

Then he starts talking about bird flu, and asks the kids to be sure not to touch or play with sick or dead birds. Really. Then a voice over repeats that people shouldn't touch dead birds.

Are dead birds a prop for some childhood game I was too deprived to ever play? Is there some sort of inevitable compulsion to rub oneself in dead bird feathers that I, as a non-farm girl never go to experience? I mean, yeah, no one wants to get avian flu. But really, is the bird flu version of The More You Know really necessary? The ad actually ends with an (adorable, natch) kid saying, "But paper birds are OK!"

And finally, isn't bird flu so last season? Don't we all care about shampoo on airplanes and stuff now?

Sorry to have to burst your bubble, but the Bird Flu virus is very NOW and very REAL and is currently growing at more than twice of the rate of the last year.

There have been 141 deaths related to the Bird Flu virus to date, that we know of.

The last 3 human fatalities resulting from the Bird Flu virus, were announced last week!

We expect more such announcements shortly.

The point is that this is a BIRD virus and is not supposed to be killing humans!

I hope that the powers that be, are taking this global threat to us seriously enough, to try and prepare for the worst case scenario.

The fact that some one like Jakie Chan is giving up his time for the fight against this global threat shows that he is clued up to what this virus can do if it does mutate in to a human virus.

I would recommend that you look up some serious and focused sources of news, regarding the bird flu virus.

We have today added the "No, Really, WHAT?" entry of your blog, to The-Best-Bird-Flu-Blogs section of our site, in order to be able to provide a balance against those with an opposing view.

Why fret? Just get ready for the thing. Pack up water, food, medicines (if you take them) plenty of good lists online to follow. Then go on with your life. If it comes, your ready. If not, you're ready for whatever other event might come to your area. Preparation is Power.

aw shucks, what's 141 dead people here and there? Although this reminds me that someone at work asked if I had the bird flu when I came in all sick. Three years ago when I really sick I told everyone it was SARS. You know me, just trying to be dying of the disease of the minute.

Well Mixi, bird flu is a long slow painful death where you can catch your breath as your lungs deteriorate...if you're lucky there's a hospital available to take you in an put you on a respirator. If there's a pandemic, you'll go it alone at home...
